SNAP in 2023

With the arrival of 2023, many families are facing the final month here when they will receive SNAP benefits as they will expire on January 31, 2023.

For example, the South Carolina Department of Social Services says January 2023 has been approved as the state’s “transition month” by the USDA for Food and Nutrition Services.

This means that starting February 1, residents are expected to return to normal benefit amounts that do not include SNAP food stamps.

The agency says the family’s regular benefit amount will not change based on the termination of emergency benefits and that benefits are not subject to fair hearings.

SNAP recipients will be able to see regular monthly benefit amounts starting January 3 on the DSS portal.

It can represent an unsettling period of time for some families as they seek to understand how the change will affect their daily lives, as well as the administrative changes they will need to make in order to get what they want.
